Beware the boots

The boy set Baby Bear in his backpack.

“I want you to be my playmate,” said the boy. “I’m going to go to the beach. You look sleepy. You can come to the beach, too, when you wake up.”

The boy ran to the beach. He was wearing swim trunks and he was carrying beach toys. He threw his boots off and hopped into the sand.

“Oh!” the boy exclaimed. “The sand is very hot.”

The boy took a few running steps in the sand, but his parents called him back.

“It’s time to leave. Let’s go,” the dad said. He picked up the blankets and a bucket and a toy shovel. The boy put on one boot and started looking for the other. He walked with one boot on and the other book off.

“If I were a boot, where would I be?” asked the boy to no one at all.

“You really have to be more careful with your things,” said the mom.

“Okay,” said the boy, absent mindedly.

Baby Bear had left the backpack and was searching for the boot. He found it in a pile of sand, next to a pile of seashells. It looked as if someone had collected the sea. The boy ran up to him and reached for the boot, but Baby Bear pushed him away.

“Wait! Why did you do that?”

Just then, a large black spider crawled out of the boot.

“Oh wow,” said the boy. Carefully, he put the boot back on, and he walked toward his parents. Baby Bear walked toward the sea and stopped when he saw…
