by plein air artists in western new york and southern ontario

Niagara Falls is stunning year round. Above is a photograph of the Falls in the winter, when the water is covered in ice and snow. It’s absolutely amazing. What’s also absolutely amazing are some of the paintings of Niagara Falls. These artists have no trouble depicting fast moving water and making it come alive. It’s definitely a goal that I’m working toward, but I am not there yet. I do paint outside sometime, and my images are of scenes that don’t involve rapidly moving water
So, I am happy to share websites of artists who are there. Here are some of them.
Kath Shifano is a professional artist and a retired art teacher. She loves plein aire painting, which basically means painting outdoors. She describes her style as realistic impressionism. Many of her paintings are done here in Western New York, but she has also traveled to other countries to paint. She has painted in such places as Italy, the Netherlands, Wales, and Cuba. Her images of all of those places are colorful and vibrant.

Lisa Cornwell is a Western New York artist who combines her painting with storytelling. She also talks about environmental sustainability in her website. She travels around Western New York to paint. Her images tell a story of the areas that she paints.

Below is a link to the blog for the Niagara Frontier Plein Air Painters. They travel around the area and paint outside at different locations. Painting outside is always adventurous. You never know what the weather is going to be like. It could be very hot, rather cold, windy, or it could suddenly start raining! If the weather is really bad, you’re going to discover that you are running with your artwork for shelter! I think that just adds to the fun of plein air painting.
Last month, the Niagara Frontier Plein Air Painters painted scenes in Niagara Falls, New York, as part of the annual Paint Out: https://nfpap.blogspot.com/

There are also plein air painters in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They paint the same set of waterfalls, but from a different perspective. One such group that I found is called the Parkway Artists Guild. They are located in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and they paint outside, offer programs in art techniques, and hold art exhibits. On their website is a listing of some of their artists, with samples of their work.
