new trail!

There’s a new hiking trail at Veterans Park, which is Grand Island’s town park. I had heard about it, but I wasn’t sure where in the park it was. Last week, I discovered the entrance, which is near the Miracle League baseball diamond and playground. The Miracle League gives children with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy participating in sports. When I walked past it, it was full of kids, who sounded very happy and excited. It’s nice to listen to happiness and excitement.

the new town trail!

And then, I found the trail! It was in the park, but it was not in the park. It felt more like wild nature and less like town park. The path was beautiful, and it was a really pleasant walk. The areas that were waterlogged didn’t bother me because I was having so much fun experiencing nature.

I had to walk around these waterlogged areas.

And then, I found it…. blackberry bushes! There was a whole area that was nothing but blackberry bushes. Most of the blackberries were not ripe yet, but I did get a taste test! When I saw the blackberry bushes, I did a happy dance! Does happy dancing have an effect on your step count? I don’t have a clue.

These blackberries are not ripe, although some are close.
So many blackberries!!
I left the park and walked through a residential area before heading home. And I did get a good number of steps.
I’ll definitely be back to eat more blackberries and to check out the wildflowers.
Who will get to the blackberries first? Alice or the birds??? (to be continued)

  1. The Miracle League sounds wonderful. It is great the kids were outside having fun, the sounds of young summer. It looks like you had such a serene walk. Let’s hope you get those blackberries first, Alice!
