Design fun

Today, after a long week doing journalism for the local newspaper, I decided that it was time for a complete change of pace. I got out a pencil and a bunch of brush markers, and some small pieces of hot press watercolor cards, and I created a design. I had no idea of the image that I wanted to create when I began drawing. And I had no expectations. Whatever I did was going to be enough. So, I drew and then added the color. And then, I doodled shapes on my picture, which was, essentially, shapes. Once I had my main shapes in place and the doodles done, I added more elements to avoid having an empty space, which would give the appearance that I didn’t finish my picture. At that point, I pronounced it finished. Which is a big step forward for me as an artist. I’ve had a difficult time pronouncing my work finished before it becomes annoyingly overworked. Not this time, however!

If you tend to overwork your artwork, you are not alone!!!

Here is today’s design.

This picture is the exact same size as an index card. I’m going to participate in the 61-day Daisy Yellow Index Card challenge, starting June 1st. Would you like to join me? You get a prompt for each day and a suggestion of artistic medium, such as markers, collage, colored pencils, etc. It’s fun, and, sometimes, the prompts are really silly. We all need to have some silly time these days!
