winter haikus

It’s been cold and snowy. The winter storm warning continues until tomorrow afternoon. I thought that today would be a good day for me to share some of my poetry with you. I never thought of myself as a poet but a few years ago, my sister suggested that I try writing poetry. And I did so. I think that I like writing poems now. Here are some winter haikus for you. A few are haikus I wrote three years ago, and I’m composing a few more as I write this blog post.

The wind screams loudly
sad songs from faraway lands
The sky's tears are ice.
Raindrops cling to screens
as a wet snow flutters down
midnight in winter
Ice falls from the sky
landing hard on the soft ground
late winter nightmare
Food for hungry deer
under snow-filled bird feeders
early evening treat
A hawk sits alert
near the tree's top most branches
watching the snow fall

  1. Oh thank you for sharing your Haiku and the cheery art – Perfect for a January day! Your words paint such evocative pictures.
We sometimes write a poem when we meet or chatting with a SoulCollage®️ card!
