A public art program was kicked off this fall here in the Town of Grand Island, New York. It was organized by the Economic Development Advisory Board. Two artists were selected to paint traffic boxes in the center of town. One of the artists is Sophie Myers, a sophomore at Grand Island High School and an aspiring artist. The other artist is Kim Van Norman. She has a degree in art education but is not currently teaching. She paints at home and sometimes sells her art. In addition, she goes to people’s homes and paints murals for the homeowners.

There will be more traffic boxes to paint next year, and I am thinking that I might try to be one of the artists! I just need to come up with a Grand Island theme and a creative concept! I’m going to experiment with ideas at the start of the 2026 100-day art project!!!
Tomorrow: I really don’t have a clue. Sometimes, my ideas for blog posts are really spontaneous. But I do have a question for you!
Is there anything at all that you’d like to ask me??? Ask away!!! Post your questions in the comment section or on facebook, and I will answer you!
I love all of the depictions of nature – the lush blues and greens, the deer and fish. Truly beautiful. Things like this make the streets we share all the more welcoming and beautiful. I love when we can share in art together.
I’d love to ask you about the name of your blog/website and what inspired it! đŸ™‚ I, too, am drawn to the sun, moon, and starts. <3
Those are beautifully done – what a great way to enliven the area!
Alice, these boxes and the artwork are charming and wonderful! Thanks!
What a great idea to had art to the streets! You should come up with a theme Alice, I love your paintings!
Awesome job Alice! Thanks so much for meeting us there and helping us introduce this project to the public! My next initiative proposal you may really like too. Getting the Grand Island community together to break or set a world record next summer! Something bridge to bridge themed… stay tuned!
