Traffic box art

A public art program was kicked off this fall here in the Town of Grand Island, New York. It was organized by the Economic Development Advisory Board. Two artists were selected to paint traffic boxes in the center of town. One of the artists is Sophie Myers, a sophomore at Grand Island High School and an aspiring artist. The other artist is Kim Van Norman. She has a degree in art education but is not currently teaching. She paints at home and sometimes sells her art. In addition, she goes to people’s homes and paints murals for the homeowners.

This is the traffic box that Sophie painted. It’s all about Grand Island, past and present.
Here is another view of Sophie’s box.
This is one view of Kim’s traffic box. She focuses on the natural beauty of Grand Island.
Grand Island is close to Niagara Falls!

There will be more traffic boxes to paint next year, and I am thinking that I might try to be one of the artists! I just need to come up with a Grand Island theme and a creative concept! I’m going to experiment with ideas at the start of the 2026 100-day art project!!!

Tomorrow: I really don’t have a clue. Sometimes, my ideas for blog posts are really spontaneous. But I do have a question for you!

Is there anything at all that you’d like to ask me??? Ask away!!! Post your questions in the comment section or on facebook, and I will answer you!
