stormy weather…

Day 25 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and of Inktober. Today’s prompt is scarecrow.

The sound was beginning to come closer. It was a crashing sound and the sky lit up and, within the space of a few minutes, Baby Bear was soaking wet. The storm didn’t bother Baby Bear. He danced and attempted to do a back flip in the tucked position, but he wasn’t an acrobat so he landed on the ground. Then he did somersaults on the ground, which he completed without crash landing. Just as he stood up from the somersault, he noticed all of the bears running in the same direction, so he followed them into a cave.

The storm sounded even louder in the cave. Baby Bear wanted to go back outside and watch the storm.

“Where do you think you’re going?” asked Baby Bear’s father.

“Outside to play in the storm,” said Baby Bear. “I’m kind of bored.”

“Look,” said Momma Bear. “Here’s a scarecrow. Why don’t you play a game with the scarecrow.”

Baby Bear noticed that the scarecrow was lying on the ground. It didn’t look like it was up for playing any games.

“Oh, dear,” said Baby Bear. “I don’t think that this critter is going to be much of a playmate.”

“What???” yelped the scarecrow, as he abruptly hopped to his feet, much to the surprise of Baby Bear, who actually did a back flip in the pike position.

“Oh,” said Baby Bear. “You’re alive.”

“Of course, I’m alive,” said the scarecrow. “It’s just that no one ever paid attention to me.”

“Let’s play a chase game,” said Baby Bear.

The scarecrow and Baby Bear chased each other until they both fell asleep on the ground, their arms intertwined and with a lot of giggles.
