fun stuff while waiting for a storm

Yesterday evening, I had the opportunity to go to the Orange Poppy Art Studio for a fun craft workshop. It was the first time I had been out of my apartment building since Sunday, so I was really excited to go. The activity was fun and relaxing. It was all about wrapping cones with yarn and then decorating the wrapped cones with fun Valentine’s-day themed baubles. So much fun and it was really relaxing. We used these very cool rechargeable hot glue guns, which were very cool until the charge died. Of course, we used them for two hours nonstop so the fact that the charge couldn’t last that long wasn’t a surprise. Nevertheless, I was able to finish my projects. I really like the conversation hearts and the wooden hearts and all of the tchotchke that I was able to add to my creations? Isn’t tchothke a cool word. There’s no way I could have spelled that on my own, so having the internet spell it for me is pretty awesome.

Today, this came in the mail for me. It’s a small luggage tag that I had made to add to my backpack for when I travel. It’s mostly just decoration since, when I travel next month, I’m not checking any luggage. But still, it could be a conversation starter. Here is a view of the other side:

So, this is me, trying to add the color to a season that lacks exactly that. How do you add color to your world?

  1. My first reaction when I opened today’s blog was that those were interesting party hats. Then I realized they were yarn cones – as a friend often would say, “cool beans.”

Cute luggage tag! Don’t worry about traveling, attach it to your briefcase, craft bag, whatever. It will bring some fun, and will also make it much easier to identify your bag, make it less likely someone else picks it up by mistake, and make it easier to describe if you leave it somewhere.

    1. Thank you, John! Great ideas for the luggage tag! I’m definitely going to attach it to my backpack tomorrow when I go to the early voting site, where I am scheduled to work as an election inspector! It will get some attention, I think!

  2. Alice, how cool! (I need to get out my hot glue gun, and I wonder now if it is rechargeable, or electric, or what?) The cones remind me of the shape of gnomes. If you wanted to, I bet you could build a gnome, starting with a cone. How delightful that this workshop was *relaxing*. And you ended up with lovely things. Now tell me where I can order custom luggage tags. I love yours!

    1. Hi Kebba, I like the gnome idea. It would be fun to build a gnome, starting with a cone.
I ordered my luggage tags from Shutterfly. I just uploaded some of my paintings and used them for the luggage tabs. So much fun, for sure!
