the first four weeks of the Daisy Yellow Index Card a Day Challenge

Today, I am sharing two pictures from each of the first four weeks of the challenge. So far, I’ve really enjoyed this year’s version of the event, and I hope that you enjoy my interpretation of various prompts, which, sometimes, felt random and at other times, felt like an odd test of my vocabulary.

Week one: The theme was mark making and drawing. The prompt was owl, and I chose to interpret that prompt with whimsical colors and fun.

This was the first drawing that I did for the challenge. The image was “door or portal.” This was fun. I tried to imagine fairies and other forest creatures going through that portal. Mostly, I wondered what was on the other side. Methinks I will have to create a story based on that wondering about the end of the bike path.

Week two. The theme was collage. The prompt for the day was potpourri. It seems that potpourri has gone out of style. Maybe it made too many people sneeze. Who knows?

Day ten: the theme was collage, and the prompt was orange. And I thought… what about orange cats?

Week three: The theme was typography, lyrics, words, words, words. The prompt was terrazzo. That went along with words, words, words. I had to look it up. What the heck is a terrazzo, I wondered. Then I saw the picture and I realized that I had seen exactly that type of floor in another place in a different time.

Day 20. This time, the words come in the form of a poem. We want those golden days to stay forever. Those days when we felt vibrant and hopeful. We tried to grab hold of the gold but it fluttered away, like bubbles that last for only a few seconds. And sadly, we knew that Robert Frost was right. Nothing gold can stay.

The theme for week four was painting and mixed media. The theme was hummingbird. These birds are incredible because they are in constant motion. They are very little and they need to feed all day because they expend so much energy. Translation: you don’t have to be big to be powerful.

Another interpretation of mixed media. The prompt was “fold.” I have to admit that I love folding things. I like to fold oragami sheets and I even like to cut shaded advertisements.
