a day in the life of… me…

The snow has finally stopped falling. All of that snowfall was the result of a giant storm that affected much of the United States, from Arkansas to New England, as well as parts of Canada. The storm left snow and ice and extremely cold temperatures. Many people lost electricity, and travel was extremely hazardous.

Yesterday, I was at the Western New York Welcome Center working as an election inspector during day two of early voting. We are having a special election here in Western New York. Sean Ryan, who had served as state senator, left that office after being elected mayor of Buffalo last November. The person who is elected on February 3 will complete Sean Ryan’s term, which ends on December 31st.

Today, I didn’t have anywhere to go. There are travel advisories for the entire state. Schools are closed, and the kids are enjoying a snow day.

The day, however, started with a bit of a fright. When I went to sleep last night, I noticed no cat on my bed, which is unusual. Normally, Trinity secures her spot in the middle of my bed before I can even get in bed. This time, no cat. I went to sleep and woke up to… no cat. What the heck! Where’s that cat? I looked in the living room. No cat. I looked in the bathroom and the kitchen. No cat. I brushed my teeth and I took the cat food out of the refrigerator. Nope, no cat. Uh oh, the cat vanished!!!

I returned to my bedroom and decided to get dressed. When I opened the closet, I heard scratching noises. But no cat came out of the closet. The noises continued. Hmmm, this is getting more and more mysterious. So, my dresser is in my closet. When I put my pajamas away, all of a sudden I saw the most amazing sight. It was a cat sitting in the pajama drawer. Unfortunately, I was so startled by the sight of a cat sitting in the pajama drawer that I failed to take a picture of it.

This is the pajama drawer, where the silly Trinity decided to sleep. When I shut the drawer and the closet, I never noticed a cat nestled there. Apparently, she might have been looking for warmth. This was her first dresser drawer adventure. Before she left the drawer, she gave me a look that I translated to, “Oh, humans are SO stupid!”
Here she is, Her Royal Catness, on the bed and still giving a look to her foolish human.

After that experience, I fed the cat and made breakfast for me. I had a little omelette with mushrooms and onions and feta cheese.

Other activities that I did today included finishing my door decoration. It seems that I am now really hooked on decorating my door for any occasion. So, after the Buffalo Bills lost in overtime to the Denver Broncos, I took down my Bills decorations and began decorating for Valentine’s Day. Here it is!

Of course, I included a photograph of the silly drawer-loving cat in this design. The poem that I posted is one of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s sonnets.

I also drew this picture of a dancing snow human because, well, what do you do on a snow day but draw snow humans?

When there’s a snowstorm, a snow human celebrates because there is the potential to get so many new friends.

And, speaking of snow, I went outside and took pictures of all of that snow. It was a balmy 16 degrees Fahrenheit/8.9 degrees celsius.

When I went to the courtyard, I saw a bunch of birds flying away from the feeder. One of them was a cardinal. They went into evergreens close to this one and vanished, apparently feeling camera shy.
It looks like this adult tricycle is stuck in place for a while.

And now, I’m getting ready to cook dinner, which will consist of a stir fry with brown rice noodles. Trinity (aka Her Royal Catness or Queen of the Pajama Drawer) is on the windowsill, watching the birds in the courtyard. They fly toward the bird feeder and they fly away. One of them was the cardinal that I had seen earlier. And, speaking about that bird feeder, a few days ago, three deer were busily eating old vegetables that had been left outside for them. The largest of the deer stood up and took taste tests from the bird feeder. It was quite a sight but, when I tried taking pictures of the deer through the window, the pictures were not usable. So, you’ll have to imagine deer taking taste tests from a bird feeder.

Here is a view of the porch covered with all of that copious snow!

And tomorrow, I go back to the Western New York Welcome Center to do my Big Government Job as an election inspector!

  1. What a lot of snow! Our weather is strange here. Mostly a warm winter with a few crazy days of -37/38℃. Now we’re heading back to unusually warm temps again. Sounds like you are super busy with everything. Love your door and snowman. Nice to have a cat on the bed or dresser drawer. I miss animal comfort.

    1. This is definitely the snowiest winter we’ve had in a while. I checked the weather forecast, and it looks like we’re in the deep freeze for a while. When it finally warms up, I will be very grateful.
Yes, I am grateful to have this very silly cat. But I’m a very silly human so we are a matched set!
