Why “sun moon stars”?

Several days ago, I asked for questions, and I got one, from Safrianna. She asked: “I’d love to ask you about the name of your blog/website and what inspired it!  I, too, am drawn to the sun, moon, and stars. “

🙂

The smiley face wasn’t as large in the original question, but, when I copied and pasted, it became huge. Which reminds me: the smiley face is an expression of joy, as is the hope that the sun, moon, and stars will be around for a long time for us humans to look at and to wish upon.

Looking at the full moon or at a solar eclipse or at constellations in the sky gives me a feeling of hope that all will be okay with us. These celestial bodies feel constant and unchanging and steady. Trees are like that, too, especially the slow growing trees, such as oaks, cedars, and junipers. Human are not any of those things. We grow and we change. Which is why we need to see things that appear to be unchanging. They give us an anchor, a place where we can simply be.

Because I try to write my blog from a place of optimism at a time when optimism is a scarce commodity, I look to the sun, the moon, and the stars for inspiration. Which is why I have decided to call my blog, “Sun moon stars.”

Thank you so much, Safrianna, for asking!

  1. Alice, it’s so good you got a chance to illuminate this. I feel the same way about the Sun, Moon, and stars. I know you (for how many years now?) as a person who celebrates what is upbeat, what is good, and what is whimsical. Phil 4:8 says, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable… think about such things.” And you embody that, and that makes you both strong and admirable. <3
