10 indoor activities to enjoy…

when the weather is atrocious…

A huge storm is predicted to arrive early on Sunday morning. It could bring snow or ice and winds and who knows what else. There is the likelihood that states will declare states of emergency and travel bans. On my phone, I am getting alerts for a winter storm warning, which is predicted to start at 7 a.m. on Sunday. The weather predicted includes heavy snow and hazardous traveling conditions. If you are in the path of this storm, please check your weather forecasts and stay safe. Below are some suggestions of ways to have fun while staying inside.

Indoor activity one: vacuum the floor or do other house hold chores Vacuuming is great because it will get your carpets free of cat hairs and all sorts of stuff that ends up on the floor. If you want to do activity on the floor, it’s always nice to have the floors vacuumed. Plus the cat will move. most likely to the nearest windowsill. When you’re done, don’t forget to give the cat some treats. Trinity loves dental treats. The way to make household chores more fun is to turn them into contests! There would be the put the toys in the toy bin race, the floor sweeping contest, and more. Wearing a witch’s hat while sweeping the floor would be a fine touch.

Indoor activity two: why not do laundry? I am currently wearing the warmest clothes I possess. Today, I am washing sheets, towels, and clothes. The best part of this activity is that the machine does all of the work. Or, at least, most of it. I am heading upstairs now to collect the sheets and towels. I love folding things, including fitted sheets. So, I get to fold and remake my bed. What could be nicer than putting on clean pajamas at night and then crawling in between clean sheets? Of course, because sharing is caring, the cat is going to be on the bed, too. It’s impressive how much space an eight-pound cat can occupy on a bed. All right. So now, you’re saying, enough housework. I agree. But I must add that the laundry folding contest could be fun, too.

Indoor activity number three: There are all sorts of how to draw or paint step by step instructions on line. Some of them are youtube videos and others are written directions. You can find a set of step by step instructions on pretty much anything that you want to create, from snowmen to abstract designs. Your web browser will give you a choice of instructions for your art project. Other art-related activities could include glass painting, paper crafts, painting on wood, and so much more.

Indoor activity number four: How about a tea party, especially if you have kids. Decaffeinated or herbal teas would be good choices for the kids. You could decorate for your tea party, too, and that would be a fun group activity.

Indoor activity number five: jigsaw puzzles. You can do them by yourself or with other people. All you need is a puzzle and a table. If you have a cat in your home, there could be a problem because cats like to jump on tables and push everything to the floor. You’ll find that you’re starting your puzzle over and over and over again.

Indoor activity number six: How about a private workout? There are plenty of exercises that you could do at home. You have more exercise equipment than you realize. The stairs are good for an aerobic workout. You can use your walls for wall pushups. If you’re a beginner to weight lifting and don’t have any weights, you can use soup cans. There are all sorts of exercise videos online, and some of them offer the choice of following a high impact or a low impact workout. I usually choose the low impact workout because it’s easier on the joints.

Indoor activity number seven: improvisational theater. You could act out any story that you like. Each person takes on a role. There’s no script. You talk about how you think your characters might act and what they might say, and then you act out a play. You don’t need an audience. It’s loads of fun and it’s okay to laugh and be silly.

Indoor activity number eight: spa day. If you have nail files and nail polish, you could give one another a manicure. Or you could braid hair or do all sorts of fun hairdos.

Indoor activity number nine: a movie marathon. Make popcorn and watch movies on your television or computer.

Indoor activity number ten: Have contests, that could include card games, Bingo, board games, or other fun activities.
