Today is day 30 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and of Inktober. The prompt for the day is violin.
It had been such an exciting day. Bearnacle Bear had received his forever name. He got to explore the stars and to hear the story of Callisto and her son Arcas and how Zeus turned them into bears and threw them to the sky. Bearnacle was so happy that, when he looked at the sky, he would always follow bears.
“I will never be without bears,” Bearnacle thought, “even when I am far out to sea.”
But then, Bearnacle felt sad, thinking about what the boy had told him. Bearnacle wanted to talk to everyone and, until now, he had been able to. But the ,thought that bears and humans would be forever divided and that they would not be able to understand each other’s languages felt sad. Then Bearnacle remembered something more hopeful. When he was at the home of the girl human, he had been given a chair to sit on and some food to eat. It wasn’t as good as the food that the bears ate, but it was okay. There were a lot of vegetables that Bearnacle couldn’t identify and there were some meats, as well. He ate everything because he was very hungry. There were a lot of people eating dinner at that house that evening, including the girl human and the boy.
After dinner, the girl human got out two objects. She looked at Bearnacle and could see that he was curious.
“This is a violin,” said the girl human. “And to play the violin, I have this bow.”
“Play the violin? What does that mean? Is it a game? Will I get to play, too?” This all seemed very mysterious to Bearnacle.
At that moment, Bearnacle heard the most wonderful sounds. He looked at the girl, and she looked very happy. She played gentle songs and she played energetic songs, and the people in the room danced with great exurberance and, before long, Bearnacle was also dancing.
As Bearnacle sat on his little bed in the cave, he reflected on that evening. And he thought about it. Music is the answer to everything. Even if bears and humans couldn’t understand one another’s words, they will still understand the songs.
As Bearnacle fell asleep, he heard an echo of the girl human’s songs in his head.
What a sweet experience for Bearnacle! And great observation
Music is a great bridge – I play folk harp, and on my way to a workshop on I using music for Healing, I spent the night with friends. The wife practiced animal communication and
Their older dog had chronic pain. After I finished playing for them, Morgine told me that Chetwin asked, ‘Is that another way she talks? Her ‘voice’ made my whole body feel good!’ 💓
Bearnacle’s journey and his discovery of music as a bridge between bears and humans is so heartwarming. The scene where he dances along to the violin captures the magic of music beautifully
Bearnacle Bear sure had an exciting time meeting everyone. I like how he thought about the music and how that is the answer to everything. I love music and just listening to it can be very soothing.
