I hate being cold. I will admit that right away. But I enjoy the pretty winter season. Here are my four secrets.
Secret one: Make sure to dress in layers. Wear warm socks and nice, thick mittens. If, like me, you tend to have cold hands and feet, your footwear and your mittens make a huge difference. Notice that I said mittens, rather than gloves. I find that my hands feel much warmer when I wear mittens. If it’s an especially cold day, you could wear a pair of very thin gloves underneath your mittens. And, if it’s super cold, try hand warmers. Also, it’s nice to have a fun hat. My hat has a polar bear face. Maybe next time, I will share a picture of the hat. It has a fan club, which is hilarious.

Secret two: Enjoy the moment and embrace the joy. Enjoy where you are and what you’re doing. Don’t wish away these precious moments.

Secret three: Experience the weather as beautiful. If you have to watch it through the window, that’s okay. If you can go outside and experience the snow, by all means, do so. I find that I really like going out for a good walk in the winter, especially on days when it’s snowy, but not windy or icy.

Secret four: Share your wintertime fun with friends and family. Shared fun is the happiest kind of fun.
Question for you: What do you do to celebrate winter?
That bench is breathtaking! And Mickey made me smile…
As of now, enjoying the coziness of blankets 🙂
Alice, great article! I think I do these things. I love to take images of winter-only scenes. I am also very textural. I like to pick up a bit of snow and squidge it around between my fingers, just to feel what it’s like today. I like to find those icicles hanging off of eaves, break one away, and suck on it; how long will it take to melt in my mouth? I like to find the street gutters, where water flowed yesterday and ice is there today– then take sliding steps. So fun! Thanks for asking!
I miss all the snow we had when we lived in upstate NY! I remember Rich and I snowmobiling in 30 below temps and riding through the piles and piles of snow. I do love that first fallen snow before any footprints or tire marks spreading dirt and mud on the pure white snow. The photo of the snow covered bench would be beautiful on a card! Keep warm and think spring! We don’t have any snow in SC but the temps have been unbelievable cold, like in the 20’s! I’m ready to get this over with and plant my garden. Stay warm my friend!
