The beauty of winter

Today, I’m sharing recent photographs of wintry scenes. I have always struggled with winter because I don’t like being cold. At the same time, I recognize the beauty of winter. The bare branches show off the amazing detail of the tree. They show off how complicated the tree’s form really is. As an aspiring visual artist, I really appreciate and love seeing those details. I also love seeing the colors of the sky and the muted colors of the water and the land. Winter is a quiet time. The bumblebee queens are hibernating in safe spaces. They are ground nesters and the earth is truly their home. The honeybees are safe in their nests. So, I went out on various days to get these pictures of the calmness of nature in winter.

It is the starkness of winter that makes it so beautiful.
The silent spaces where the purple martins once visited feel reflective and peaceful.
The ice glitters on trees.
There is an overwhelming sense of blueness that may or may not be there.
Bridges cross over ice and water.
A peaceful walk on a quiet winter’s day is truly a joy.

  1. It’s pretty. But in all honesty winter in the North really sucks. Winter does bring out a lot of artsy stuff though and great poetry.

    1. Today, it’s not pretty anymore. It rained a lot yesterday, and it looks dreary. Watching four squirrels run around in circles and nearly bump into one another was funny, however. And, yes, it’s time to create art and poetry.
