snowstorm!!!! and a bit of stream of consciousness…

On Sunday, as I was getting ready to watch the National Football League’s divisional game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills, I was startled when my cell phone suddenly emitted the more terrifying and shrill screech. First I wondered what had attacked the phone. Then I wondered where I put it. Once I found the object producing the offending sound, I wondered who got murdered.

Well, no one got murdered. The scary alarm noise was the cell phone sharing a weather forecast. Supposedly, we were set to receive the snowfall of doom because the cell phone mentioned that the weather presented an imminent threat to life or property. I thought the word “or” was interesting. Like you get to choose which gets slammed: you or your house. It took a few minutes, but I finally got the cell phone to calm down and relax. It’s just snow. The poor cell phone needed a cup of chamomile tea because, for sure, it was completely stressed out by this weather forecast.

The weather forecase was a bit extreme. It called for massive quantities of lake effect snow and super low temperatures. Until this afternoon, I haven’t seen much snowfall, but, then again, the “snow band” is to the south of me. That’s where the massive quantities of lake effect snow is likely to land. These places are closer to Lake Erie and they tend to get slammed with a heavy snowfall.

But it has been very cold. Last night, the decision was made that the temperatures were so very cold that they were hazardous for children going to school. Well, I would guess mostly the little kids who are in the primary grades, seeing some of these older kids like to jump in the lake on a windy winter’s day to raise money for the Special Olympics. Yep, I went there and took pictures of that event. But, yes, I’m digressing.

I had every intention of staying inside and taking pictures from inside. I climbed a stepladder and sat down on my nice, wide windowsill so I could take pictures through the window. Actually, I had to kneel to get pictures through the upper part of the window. Well, that turned out to be a lot of effort for pictures that looked like this:

There are birds on the feeder, but they are hard to see. The value of this picture, however, is that you can see just how hard it was snowing.

My walk today was really brief because of the exceedingly cold temperatures. Which was okay. I really enjoyed my time in the winter wonderland, and it was nice to see the cardinals enjoying their treats at the bird feeder. And I was okay with spending as much time indoors as I did. I got a load of laundry done, and I finished transcribing my interview of the Disney on Ice performer whom I interviewed last Wednesday. Plus, I got the article written and emailed to my editor. Which was very cool. That was a fun interview to do and I am happy with my article. As I wrote, I was definitely feeling the magic. The show, in fact, is called “Disney on Ice Presents Into the Magic.” It’s coming to Buffalo and there will be shows from January 23rd until the 26th. If you want to buy tickets, you can do that at http://disneyonice.com

And now it’s time for… what else??? Tea. It’s definitely great weather for a cup of hot tea!

What do you like to do on a cold day?

  1. Hi Alice,
I just sat down to join you with a hot cup of tea.
I’ll get some comments done then off to bed to warm up under the covers if the X files don’t keep me up too late. That is the danger of tweeting.

  2. Love the snowy pics! And found myself smiling at these lines – “… presented an imminent threat to life or property. I thought the word “or” was interesting. Like you get to choose which gets slammed: you or your house.”
