little crochet squares project

Maybe about a year and a half ago, I was given some little skeins of yarn. It was the most wonderful yarn: very light and very colorful. I immediately became enamored of that yarn and I decided to create an afghan that was a rainbow of color. I’ve been thinking about changing the way that my bed looks, and I thought that a pop of color would create a nice effect. After looking for a pattern for a crochet square, I decided to make tiny squares and create a tic tac toe board type of effect.

Like this:

In the grouping of nine squares, I have a middle square that is made up of two colors within the square, plus another that is chosen randomly.

Each grouping of nine little squares looks different. And that’s the goal. To create a diverse grouping of squares. It’s sort of like people. We are a diverse grouping and it is our differences that make each of us unique.

For the grouping that is currently a work in progress, here are the colors that I chose:

color 1
color 2
color 3
color 4
For my center square, I chose two of the above colors (colors 2 & 4), as well as a random color.
My next step is to add a black border to each little square.
When I have a group of nine little squares, I will make an arrangement so I can see what it looks like before I finish crocheting the borders. I also crochet the squares together to create a stained glass effect.
I have a whole bunch of these big squares. My next step, once these groupings are complete, will be to crochet the big squares together and then, add a border. This has been a long-term project because I need a little more than 200 small squares to create an entire afghan for a twin bed. Once I have finished this afghan, I will post pictures of my completed project!
