Independence Day parade (and 5K)

Here are a few pictures of the 5K race that was held prior to the parade that was held here in the town of Grand Island, New York. The weather was lovely, and there were many people outside to watch the festivities. This 5K run/walk was named for a man named Dick Bessel. My sister participated in the race. She ran and she walked. Well, I am far too lazy to run a 5K so I walked to the site to take pictures of the people who go go go. Today’s post is part one, featuring the 5K.

This is the winner. He looked happy and was running well and comfortably. It was nice to see his happiness.
fun costume, with tutu.
Here is a pack of runners, moving comfortably.
I think there’s a baby in there, getting the ride of a lifetime.
This race featured a very large beer can!
They also look comfortable and happy. Did photographing all of those happy runners make me want to run a 5K? Um…. nooooo….. I’m a really good audience, lol.

Tomorrow: pictures from the parade!

  1. Alice, I really admire people who run these races. My body was built for rapid walking, and it hates the jolting action of running. I sometimes wonder if many of the people who run these races do it b/c they think they should. Good for you being in the audience! I bet you even drank lots of water? Btw I love to walk rapidly on my treadmill. My body likes yoga also.

    1. It was fun, and I still managed to get 18,000 steps for the day (almost none of it running, lol). Yes, my body likes long-distance walking, but running is not a plan.

The people who thought they should run the race mostly were walking slowly and chatting with friends at the end!!!
