It finally looks like and almost feels like spring. Well, winter is really trying not to go bye bye, but it’s obviously in its last hurrah stages. Fortunately, the plants are growing and the color is back with the early spring flowers. And not only are there the flowers that nature provides, there are also the flowers that the imagination offers. The creativity that people have amazes me, and I really delight in it.
The color is coming back in nature!
I saw these lovely hyacinths yesterday in downtown Buffalo. Seeing that they were growing amongst the grass, I think that these might have been “volunteers.” It doesn’t look as if they were planted at that spot.Daffodils are early spring flowers that are great to plant if you have issues with deer and rabbits eating your plants. Daffodils grow from bulbs, and, unlike tulips, are unpalatable for deer and rabbits. Tulip bulbs and plants, on the other hand, are the equivalent of chocolate for these wild critters. This is the gray field speedwell. It’s botanical name is Veronica Polita. It is an invasive species that was introduced as a “weed of cultivation,” probably because it’s really pretty. It is native to the steppes of southwest Asia. And it grows like crazy, in addition to being highly invasive. It grows early in the season and it charms you by being such an attractive shade of blue.
How about some of those artsy flowers?
I went to an event yesterday about artists creating businesses. One of the artists who has a very successful business is Janna Willoughby-Lohr, the creator of the Buffalo-based business, “Papercraft Miracles.” She is a wonder, and she can create anything from paper. The flower above is one of Janna’s creations. Yes, it’s paper. She makes entire bouquets of flowers that look super realistic. The benefits are that you won’t sneeze if you’re allergic to the flowers and the flowers will last for a long, long time. Also, you can put them in a vase without water and you can display them for quite a while. Here is another of Janna’s flowers. It’s very vivid and it looks happy. It’s even happier for people who tend to forget to water their plants because it won’t droop or wilt. How about this lovely display of paper flowers? Wouldn’t this make any wedding look extra romantic? And then, how about matching paper flowers for the bride’s bouquet!! So romantic!
So… what are some of your favorite flowers? Feel free to share in the comment section below!
Thank you! Your spring will start soon and the snow will melt away!
Yes, Janna is incredible. And the amazing this is that I used to be her babysitter!
Love the beautiful flowers. I don’t usually like the color yellow much, but always seem to be drawn to yellow flowers. So pretty and vibrant 🙂 Thanks for the pics.
Though I wish winter could take the pollen with it, I am happy to see the colors returning. Especially the spring greens! Thanks for sharing the pictures.
Aww… such beautiful flowers! The paper flowers seem so real. She is very talented. A great choice to brighten a space without worrying about pollen or wilted petals.
thank you so much! She is very gifted. And yes, these paper flowers are great gifts for someone who sneezes at pollen or who really wants to keep those flowers forever.
Your spring is further ahead of ours. We still have snow. The flowers are beautiful, the real and paper ones. Janna surely has a serious skill.

Yes, it would be nice if winter would carry pollen away. Nevertheless, my favorite comment about tree pollen is “I’d rather sneeze than freeze”!
Thanks Alice.
I think I should get some paper flowers while I wait for the volunteers to show up north of the lake.
Definitely, a bunch of paper flowers will give you happiness while you want for the living plants to reappear!
Stunning flowers both real and paper.I am a bigger fan of the real ones.
I do like both of them.
