Elizabeth River Park

The Elizabeth River in Virginia is named for Princess Elizabeth Stuart (1596-1660), the daughter of King James I of England and a sister of Prince Henry Stuart and Prince Charles Stuart, who became King Charles I. He was executed for treason in 1649. His daughter, also Princess Elizabeth, was held prisoner by the English Parliament during the English Civil War. She was taken to live on the Isle of Wight in 1650, but she fell ill with pneumonia and passed away before her 15th birthday.
The Elizabeth River was given its name by the Jamestown colonists in the 17th century.
There are a lot of concrete and other man made structures along the river,
One of the best aspects of travel is discovering all of the different plant life. This is a willow oak. It’s a very large shade tree that attracts wildlife, but is resistant to deer and disease.
There are many opportunities for fishing at Elizabeth River Park.
Despite being in anindustrial area, this park is scenic and it offers numerous recreational activities.

This is a very interesting and odd monument to concrete.
The southern magnolia is a very common tree in southern Virginia.
There are interesting views of both nature and industry from various trails and docks.
The trumpet vine is one of my favorite plants.

This is my last post from Virginia, as I am returning home tomorrow. I hope that you’ve enjoyed my pictures and stories of my time here!
