Drawing in ink

I am now participating in the 61-day Daisy Yellow Index Card a Day challenge for the third year in a row. Each day, on Daisy Yellow’s website (https://daisyyellowart.com/, I get both a prompt for the day and a theme for the week. The challenge began on June 1st, and it will end on July 31st. Which means that I am more than halfway through the challenge. I am now in week five, and the theme for the week is “ink.” I will not-so-readily admit that I don’t feel especially confident when I use ink as an art medium, probably because I can’t articulate why that is so.

I have chosen not to let lack of confidence be a deterrent. I am drawing in pencil and then I’m adding the ink. The prompts do get somewhat challenging and, at times, I’ve needed to check a dictionary to get an idea of what I am about to draw. Other times, I have to look at line art to figure out what the image could possibly look like. And still other times, I have to let my imagination run wild.

The prompt for the above drawing is “parfait.” That was a fun one to draw. Very scrumptious.

My sister suggested that kids would want to climb this tree. Of course, in real life, the tree is very tiny and not an especially good climber, but the imagination is a truly wonderful thing.

My most recent drawing was of a panoramic view of a city, with tall buildings. Although I really don’t see myself living in a city that never sleeps, I do find the buildings as amazing to look at and even admire. It makes me think of the original Batman movie, when the SOS to Batman was shone in the sky. No Batman symbol this time, but still…

I hope that you enjoyed this sample of week five drawings. Stay tuned next week for the next installment in this ongoing saga.

  1. Hi Alice. I’m glad you’re liking the dyicad challenge. I’ve been doing it for quite a few years. Love your interpretations. I love using prompts but it’s not working so much for me this year. So I’m doing mostly the weekly themes. I love drawing with pens. I’m using my pen brush. It flows so nice. I like drawing in ink and not being able to erase. I like wobbles and the not so correct. I admire your drawing of buildings.

  2. Hi Alice,
I am impressed by the many forms and media you use to express your creativity.
I can only manage one challenge at a time and photography is currently my preferred method of expression.

  3. I love your “Parfait” drawing! It is a theme close to my Smoothie Bowls 🙂 It is both exciting and scary to get out of one’s comfort zone. I am enjoying your drawings as much as your flower pictures from the other day that you posted!

    1. Thank you so much!!! I haven’t had breakfast and my mouth watered happily at the thought of a Smoothie Bowl.

And yes, I agree about getting out of your comfort zone!
