comments and conversation

A few days ago, I asked for comments and questions. I got two from that day, which I am posting with responses.

From Lynn Dorman:

On any given day, any of the above work for me, but the specific one depends on what I’ve been doing and where I’m living. When I lived on the water going kayaking was something that made me happy, dog walking always makes me happy, and I’ve been doing that with this dog for almost 14 years. And today I think I have finished the book I have been working on. I can’t believe it’s taken as long as it has for a short book, but I assume the next umpty books that I have in my will come out quicker. I also know how to take pictures, crochet, knit, weave, play the piano, etc, but I’ve let some of those things go because there’s only so many hours in the day

Anything that gives you happiness is good. And yes, there are so many hours in the day, so you have to pick the things that make you the happiest, like taking walks with your dogs and reading books and kayaking. It’s so great that you and your dog have been together for almost fourteen years. When I am walking on the bike path, I get to meet so many dogs and their humans. The dogs love to sniff me because I smell like a cat! They know right away that I am a human who belongs to a cat!

This is from Kebba Buckley Button:

Alice, yes. I express in most of those, although mostly writing and the creativity of Divine/Energy Healing. For many years, I was a vibrant and creative cook. I seem to be doing a little of that again. I am also a photographer, and my living room is now a gallery. I paint some. And what are your favorite creative outlets? Put them in order please.

That’s great, and I love to read your writing. I agree about cooking. That’s awesome. Sometimes, it leads to great food and, other times, it leads to great disasters, especially when you forget that your oven runs hot and you’re following a recipe exactly. Oh, oops, shouldn’t have done that. Is that my cue to order out???

Anyway, as for my creative outlets, put in order!!

  1. drawing in my visual journal. It’s little and I carry it everywhere in my purse. It helps me tell my story on a regular basis through words and pictures.
  2. photography. I like to take pictures at random moments, whenever the urge strikes me. Thanks to technology, I can use a camera or I can use a phone. It’s truly amazing to have these choices in self expression.
  3. collage. I’ve really grown to love this. Grouping images together to tell a story or to express some sort of feeling is incredible.
  4. crochet. I can do this while I’m watching a football game!
  5. music… singing, playing my guitar, playing the piano. Music is such a great way to express yourself and work through frustrations.
  6. painting. I love to do this but it does feel a little less spontaneous than drawing in my visual journal. Still, I enjoy it, especially when I devote a block of time to it. It is amazing to go from blank canvas (“portrait of blizzard”) to completed painting. The process is the wonderful part. It’s the part that feels transformative. I also like to paint on other surfaces, such as rocks and wood.

That’s all I can think of!!!

And now, the bonus!!! How about Round two? Ask any question, make any comment, and I will continue the conversation in an upcoming blog post!!!
